Her Wild Life Expeditions did not start as a separate brand. It started as a question Sheridan Samano kept asking herself in the field.

Why are there so few women out here?

Sheridan co-founded Reefs to Rockies in 2006 with Lynda Gregory, after a study abroad experience in Costa Rica that made the connection between wildlife biology and meaningful travel impossible to ignore. What began as a shared curiosity about ecosystems became a full expedition company – expert-led, small groups, built around field science rather than tourist itineraries.

For nearly twenty years, Reefs to Rockies has guided travelers through some of the world’s most extraordinary wild places. Sheridan personally led expeditions each season, refining an approach to itinerary design that puts you in front of wildlife at the exact right moment. Not because the schedule says so. Because the field biology does.

And then, gradually, a pattern became impossible to ignore.

Women traveling with Reefs to Rockies were having exceptional experiences. But in the broader world of wildlife travel – in the field, at the front of groups, behind the spotting scope – women were still underrepresented. As guides. As leaders. As the people deciding where to go and why.

Her Wild Life Expeditions was that change.

Who Is Reefs to Rockies?

Reefs to Rockies is a nature travel company founded in 2006 and based in Erie, Colorado. It designs and leads expert-guided small group expeditions and custom wildlife journeys across North America and beyond.

Every Reefs to Rockies trip is built around the same principles as every Her Wild Life expedition: field biology, responsible wildlife viewing, and guides who are scientists and naturalists first. The two brands share a founder, a philosophy, and a guide team.
