H1: Southern Plains Land Trust

Southern Plains Land Trust is a Colorado based nonprofit working to protect and rewild the Southern Plains, land the organization calls the American Serengeti, by purchasing land and building a network of prairie refuges. The organization has protected more than 60,000 acres of shortgrass prairie to date, work that supports free roaming bison, reintroduced black footed ferrets, and plague free prairie dog colonies across its preserve network. 

Southern Plains Land Trust is a member of the Land Trust Alliance, accredited by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, and certified by the State of Colorado to hold conservation easements.

The Prairie Behind Two of Our Expeditions

On both our Nebraska Spring Magic and New Mexico expeditions, travelers spend their days searching the shortgrass prairie for sandhill cranes, greater prairie chickens, snow geese, and other grassland species that depend on healthy native habitat.
