Denver Botanic Gardens

Denver Botanic Gardens is a nonprofit organization with locations across Colorado, including its main site on York Street in Denver, Chatfield Farms, a historic farm and homestead in Littleton, and two more conservation-focused sites: the Plains Conservation Center in Aurora and the alpine tundra site at Mount Goliath.

Beyond its gardens and exhibits, the organization runs conservation programs in horticultural research, biodiversity research, and community science that play a major role in saving species and protecting natural habitats for future generations.

Protecting the Plants Behind the Wildlife

Denver Botanic Gardens’ own Plains Conservation Center protects more than 1,000 acres of shortgrass prairie in Aurora, Colorado, the same native grassland our Nebraska Spring expedition travelers cross each spring. The prairie plants preserved there are the literal food and cover base for the sandhill cranes, prairie chickens, and other grassland birds the trip is built around; without healthy native prairie, there is no bird population to see. Visit Denver Botanic Gardens’ website to learn more about their work.
