Bird Conservancy of the Rockies

Bird Conservancy of the Rockies is a Colorado-based nonprofit dedicated to the conservation of birds and their habitats through an integrated approach of science, education, and land stewardship. Headquartered at the Old Stone House Environmental Learning Center at Barr Lake State Park in Brighton, Colorado, the organization also maintains offices in Fort Collins, Colorado, and Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and runs the second largest breeding bird monitoring program in North America, spanning private and public land from the Rockies to the Great Plains and into Mexico. Bird Conservancy of the Rockies partners with more than 250 agencies, businesses, nonprofits, and universities to advance its work.

Watching Over the Platte River Flyway

Bird Conservancy of the Rockies’ Nebraska office in Scottsbluff sits along the North Platte River system that our Nebraska Spring Magic tour follows each spring to witness the sandhill crane migration. The organization runs the second largest breeding bird monitoring program in North America, work that spans exactly this stretch of the Great Plains and tracks the health of the grassland bird populations that depend on it.
